Storm water can be treated for sediment, oil and buoyant objects using an inline filter.

In this simplified example the filter uses a partial height vertical baffle to retain oil and buoyant objects while allowing the water to flow under the baffle and escape. CFD can be used to visualise the oil – water interface and to predict maximum oil retention for a given water flow rate.
